Who Are MAUK?​
The Mining Association of the United Kingdom (MAUK) was founded in August 1946 as the British Overseas Mining Association. It took its present name in 1976 following the merger with the United Kingdom Metal Mining Association.

The Mining Association of the United Kingdom is the voice for the underground mining sector operating across both critical and essential minerals.

The Mining Association of the United Kingdom (MAUK) was founded in 1946as the British Overseas Mining Association.  It took its present name in 1976 following the merger with the United Kingdom Metal Mining Association.

The Association,

  • is consulted directly by Government Departments and other authorites on proposed changes in legislation and regulation.
  • promotes and provides best practice guidance in all matters of ESG, with a core focus on Major Hazard Management.
  • provides a Mutual Aid framework for emergency response and recovery + training and education.
  • provides technical networking, visits and referencesfor established and emerging operators to enhance mine design principles and operating practices.

Today MAUK members include operators and associate companies and organisations that have interest in underground mining in the UK. MAUK’s primary interest centre around the delivery of Responsible Mining Activities.  MAUK provide guidance and share best practices for Health and Safety, Environmental and Social impact management.  The Association was established to represent and promote the interest of the industry.  This remains its mission.  Through its involvement with Government Departments and other authorities MAUK contributes to provide relevant legislation in support of a buoyant domestic Mining and Minerals Sector, a rapid and just transition to Net-Zero and Responsible Mining.
